Create Your Own Map
Using National Geographic TOPO! Michigan Software

At this 2 hour workshop, you will use a personal computer and National Geographic TOPO! software to create and print your own customized topographic map of anywhere in Michigan. Our mapping experts will first explain how to read and use a topographic map, then guide you through a hands-on session using TOPO! to locate an area you are interested in, customize your map with routes, symbols or notes, then print your map on waterproof Adventure Paper to take home. Along the way we will learn how to use TOPO!'s elevation profiling and search tools to find out more about your map!

General familiarity with computer use and Microsoft Windows is necessary to get the most from this class.

Pre-registration is required, registration deadline is 3 business days prior to class date.
Minimum enrollment: 4 students. Maximum enrollment: 8 students.

Understanding Land & Community Development Choices in Leelanau

The Leelanau Government and Community Center (www.leelanau.cc) is a powerful web site that provides everyone easy access to detailed information and interactive maps about natural resources and recreation, land ownership and property lines, planning and zoning choices, and much more. Join this hands-on introduction to using the Community Center's tools to change maps scales, overlay or add information to maps, measure distances and acreages, search for specific properties, and print your results. This 2 hour class is a must for people interested in the future use of land in Leelanau County.

General familiarity with Internet browser use is necessary to get the most from this class.
